Installation
- Upload the
smart-media-foldersfolder to the/wp-content/plugins/directory, or install the plugin directly through the WordPress plugins screen. - Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress.
- Go to Media -> Library to see the new folders sidebar.
- Customize your default active highlight color via Settings -> Smart Media Folders.

Does deleting a folder delete the actual files?

Yes! The “Delete” option uses a recursive deep-delete engine that removes the folder taxonomy, its child folders, and permanently deletes all media attachments inside them from your server. Please use caution as this cannot be undone.

How can I change a folder’s color?

Simply right-click on any folder card inside the Media Grid layout, click “Change Color”, select your preferred palette, and hit save!

Does it slow down my WordPress Admin?

Not at all. The plugin uses optimized custom taxonomies and minimal JavaScript, making it incredibly fast even with thousands of media files.
